Quick Sambar - no tamarind

Most of the time preparing side dish for any tiffin takes time, if it has to be sambar.. a quick sambar comes in handy when you are tired or have less time.


Ingredients:

  1. Thoor Dhal - 1 cup
  2. Water - 2 cups
  3. Onions- 1
  4. Tomatoes- 2
  5. Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  6. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  7. Coriander chopped- 1 small cup
  8. Curry leaves - few
  9. Vegetable (any) - chopped
  10. Sambar powder - 2 tsp
  11. Coconut grated - 2 tsp ( optional)

Method:

  • In a pressure cooker, add dhal and water
  • Add chopped tomatoes , chopped vegetables and onions along with dhal (Pressure cooking veg makes it a little mushy so chop it accordingly.)
  • Add Sambar powder, turmeric
  • Add grated coconut (Optional)
  • Add coriander
  • Pressure cook for 3 whistles
  • In a pan, splutter mustard seeds and add curry leaves
  • Transfer to the cooker, mix well.

Tips:

  1. More tomatoes and less tamarind will give splendid taste to sambar :)
  2. More it boils more the taste is :)
